A strong cold front moving through Arkansas on Sunday will bring the threat of severe thunderstorms, damaging winds, and a hard freeze to the Twin Lakes Area through early next week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Little Rock.

The NWS has placed much of Arkansas under an Enhanced Risk, level 3 out of 5, for severe weather Sunday. The primary threat is damaging winds exceeding 60 mph with the possibility of reaching 75 mph, with a few brief tornadoes also possible along the leading edge of the storm line. The strongest storms are expected Sunday afternoon and evening.

Simulated radar data from the NWS shows the storm line pushing through the region around 5 p.m. Sunday, with conditions improving by 8.

Behind the front, strong northerly wind gusts of 40 to 45 mph are forecast for the Mountain Home area Sunday into Sunday night. Wind chills in the Mountain Home area could drop to around 10 degrees Sunday night, with similar bitterly cold conditions expected across North Central Arkansas.

Overnight lows Sunday night are forecast to fall to the upper teens to low 20s across the region, with Mountain Home dropping to around 19 degrees. A second round of freezing temperatures is expected Tuesday morning, with lows forecast in the upper teens across northern Arkansas.
