Officials with Buffalo National River have begun developing a River Management Plan to guide the long-term stewardship of the river corridor.
The plan will update the river’s 1983 River Use Management Plan and provide a framework for future decisions supporting a range of river-based recreational opportunities and visitor experiences. The goal is to balance protection of natural resources with opportunities for recreation and meaningful visitor experiences along the river corridor and its access points.
As part of the process, the National Park Service is seeking public input during an engagement period lasting through April 10. Officials say feedback on preliminary management strategies will help shape the draft plan, including ideas related to enhancing visitor experiences, managing recreational use and guiding facility development while protecting the river’s natural and cultural qualities.
Park staff will host several open-house style meetings where the public can review information and provide feedback.
In-person meetings are scheduled from 5:30-7:30 for the evenings of March 16 at the Crooked Creek Volunteer Fire Department in Marble Falls, March 17 at the Yellville High School gym in Yellville and March 19 at the Dr. Charles D. Daniel Civic Center in Marshall. There will be an additional virtual meeting March 31.
