
The Arkansas State University of Mountain Home Trailblazers dropped both games of a doubleheader to North Arkansas College on Saturday in Harrison.
In the opener, ASUMH fell 16-6 despite jumping out to an early lead. Broc Mattox drew a bases-loaded walk in the first inning to bring in the Trailblazers’ first run, and JD Hertzog followed with an RBI single in the second to give ASUMH a 3-1 advantage.
North Arkansas College responded with a three-run homer in the second to move ahead 4-3. ASUMH briefly regained the lead in the third inning on run-scoring hits from Rylan Jones, Gabe Flores and Jett Hannaford, but North Arkansas College answered with five runs in the fourth and added seven more in the fifth to pull away.
Hertzog led the Trailblazers at the plate with two hits, while ASUMH also stole five bases in the game.
The second game was a much tighter contest, with North Arkansas College rallying for a 10-9 walk-off victory in the bottom of the ninth inning.
ASUMH took a 3-1 lead in the third inning on RBI singles from Mattox and Jones. North Arkansas College answered in the fourth to move back in front before the Trailblazers surged ahead with a five-run seventh inning, highlighted by a bases-loaded walk to Hertzog and an RBI hit-by-pitch to Chase Plowman.
Jones added a solo home run in the eighth inning as ASUMH carried a 9-8 lead into the final inning. However, North Arkansas College delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth to secure the win.
The Trailblazers collected 14 hits in the second game, with Hertzog and Plowman each recording three hits. Jones and Weston Pschier also added multiple hits, while Christian Loera drove in three runs.
ASUMH will return to action Monday when the Trailblazers face North Central Missouri College
