The Baxter County Early Literacy Project is inviting the community to help support young readers through a children’s book drive at the Baxter County Library.
The “Donate to the Book Crate!” drive is collecting new or gently used children’s books for the 13 Early Literacy Project Little Free Libraries located throughout Baxter County.
Organizers are asking for donations of board books, picture books and small chapter books. Donations can be dropped off at the Donald W. Reynolds Library Serving Baxter County at 300 Library Hill Lane in Mountain Home during regular library hours.
Two book crates are located inside the library. One is in the Great Hall near the main entrance, and the other is downstairs near the copier and printer workspace area.
The books will help stock the Early Literacy Project’s Little Free Libraries, which allow children and families to take a book or leave one to share. Library officials say the program helps promote a love of reading among young children in the community.
Residents can find the locations of the Little Free Libraries by using the Little Free Library Locator Map available on the library’s website at BaxLib.org/Early-Literacy-Project.
The Baxter County Early Literacy Project focuses on helping children develop the early literacy skills needed for a successful start in kindergarten. The program works to place books in the hands of children, encourage families to read aloud together and increase awareness of Arkansas Child Development and Early Learning Standards.
More information about the program is available at BaxLib.org/Early-Literacy-Project.
