The City of Forsyth is moving forward with efforts to impeach its mayor after a vote by the Board of Aldermen Monday night.
Board members approved spending $30,000 to begin the impeachment process against Mayor Julie AuBuchon. The funds will be used to cover attorney fees associated with the proceedings.
The decision follows a censure issued by the board in November, when members accused AuBuchon of making sexual innuendos and creating a hostile work environment. The censure included provisions allowing the board to pursue impeachment if the behavior continued.
Mayor AuBuchon has denied any wrongdoing and expressed opposition to using city funds for the process.
Board members said the decision to move forward is intended to protect city employees. The impeachment process could ultimately lead to a public trial.
