A Lafe man faces felony charges after Arkansas State Police investigators said he left the scene of a crash involving a utility terrain vehicle and transported a critically injured passenger, delaying medical treatment before the man’s death.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the crash occurred Aug. 9, 2025, on Clay County Road 2002. Authorities said Nathan Summitt, 31, was driving a Can-Am Defender UTV when it left the roadway and crashed, ejecting passenger Devon Young.
Investigators said Summitt called 911 and was instructed not to move the victim, but ended the call, placed Young back in the vehicle and left the scene. A second call later requested an ambulance to a residence in Delaplaine, where Young was found in cardiac arrest. He was pronounced dead Aug. 10 at a Walnut Ridge hospital.
Authorities said Summitt refused chemical testing, but later toxicology results showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.188% and the presence of THC.
The state crime lab ruled Young’s death accidental due to blunt force injuries.
Summitt is charged with negligent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident. Bond was set at $30,000.
