The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a firearms qualification shoot for retired law enforcement officers Friday, April 10, beginning at 8:30 that morning. The event will take place at the sheriff’s firing range located at the former Baxter County Quarry on Baxter County Road 69 off Arkansas Highway 5 South. Signs will be posted at the entrance directing participants to the range.

The cost to participate is $10, payable in advance. Retired officers must provide their own firearm and ammunition, though certain restrictions apply.

Those wishing to participate must register in advance at the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office. Participants will be required to complete a written application and sign a release and waiver of liability form.

The qualification course was developed by certified firearms instructors with the sheriff’s office. Officers who successfully complete the course will receive an official qualification card issued by the sheriff’s office. Officials noted the sheriff’s office does not participate in the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards program, and retired officers will not receive qualification cards issued through that commission.
