A Jonesboro man faces felony charges after police said he assaulted his girlfriend and threatened to kill her with scissors.Craighead County District Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause Monday to charge 39-year-old Christopher Lee Melvin with first-degree terroristic threatening and third-degree domestic battery, both Class D felonies.

According to a probable-cause affidavit, officers responded March 14 to a domestic disturbance in the 4800 block of East Highland Drive. The victim was described as extremely distressed and hyperventilating when officers arrived. She identified a passing gray van as Melvin’s and reported he had assaulted her.

The affidavit states the two were inside the van when Melvin began hitting her. After she exited the vehicle and refused to return, Melvin allegedly threatened to kill her and attempted to grab scissors from the center console. The victim yelled for help, and Melvin left the area.

Officers later stopped the vehicle and arrested Melvin on an active warrant. Authorities reported finding box cutters and scissors in the van.

The victim had visible injuries, including bruising to her eye, rib cage and thigh.

Melvin is being held on a $50,000 bond, with a no-contact order issued. He is scheduled for arraignment April 23.
