A Springfield man is facing a federal drug charge after authorities say more than 10 pounds of fentanyl were discovered inside his home earlier this month.
34-year-old, Chaz T. Slibowski has been charged with possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute and has entered a plea of not guilty.
According to a criminal complaint, the investigation began Feb. 11 when DEA agents in Texas seized $139,000 in cash from a suspected drug and money courier. Authorities later determined the courier had likely obtained the cash from a residence located on E. McGee Street in Springfield.
Agents conducted surveillance at the home the following day and observed a vehicle registered to Slibowski parked outside. The complaint notes Slibowski was already known to law enforcement from a prior investigation.
At approximately 6:18 p.m. on Feb. 12, officers with the Springfield Police Department’s Special Response Team executed a search warrant at the residence. Slibowski, who was the only person inside at the time, exited the home and was taken into custody without incident.
During the search, investigators located four brick-shaped packages containing fentanyl, totaling approximately 2.5 pounds.
Slibowski is scheduled to appear in court March 24.
