Arkansas legislator’s expenses for 2025 have been released and the second highest reimbursement total in the Senate is from a local lawmaker. Scott Flippo’s expenses totaled $35,022 last year, which includes mileage, daily per diem and other expenses. It’s not surprising, as most of the top expense totals in both the state Senate and state House of Representatives are for those lawmakers who live the farthest from Little Rock. The numbers were compiled by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette based on records obtained from the state House of Representatives, the state Senate, Bureau of Legislative Research and Arkansas Legislative Audit.

The newspaper says for the past 20 years, the state has paid the most to legislators who attended the most meetings between legislative sessions, lived the farthest from the state capital or attended the most out-of-state conferences.

Here are the expenses from area legislators:

State Senate:

Scott Flippo, Mountain Home – $35,022
Missy Irvin, Mountain View – $29,987
Bryan King, Green Forest – $29,805

House of Representatives:

Stetson Painter, Mountain Home – $29,779
Jason Nazarenko, Cotter – $28,424
Steven Walker, Melbourne – $28,382
Ron McNair, Harrison – $27,322
Bart Schulz, Cave City – $27,021
Harlan Breaux, Holiday Island – $25,402
Alyssa Brown, Heber Springs – $24,650
Trey Steimel , Pocahontas – $24,379

Lawmakers living more than 50 miles from Little Rock received $178 each day per diem while those within 50 miles got $68. Mileage was paid at 70 cents per mile.

The Arkansas General Assembly’s session lasted 95 days last year.
