A Yellville man is facing additional charges following an altercation with staff at the Baxter County Detention Center.
According to an incident report, 28-year-old Jeremiah Selfridge became agitated while in the booking area and refused multiple orders to move to a protective custody pod. Officers advised Selfridge he would be housed in protective custody due to a lack of available isolation cells, but he continued to refuse and requested another phone call after already being allowed several.
After repeated verbal commands were ignored, an officer attempted to assist Selfridge to his feet. At that point, Selfridge reportedly tensed up and drew back his fist as if to strike, prompting officers to take him to the ground.
Selfridge was placed in hand restraints and secured in a restraint chair without further incident.
During the altercation, one jailer reported suffering a knee injury after striking it on the concrete. The injury caused pain when pressure was applied or the leg was extended.
As a result of the incident, Selfridge was charged with second-degree battery on a law enforcement officer, third-degree assault and impairing the operation of a vital public facility. He is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center with bond set at $26,500.
Selfridge was originally arrested for being in a public park while listed as a Level 3 sex offender.
