A burn ban is now in effect for Baxter County due to hot, dry conditions and increased fire danger.

The order, issued Tuesday by Baxter County Judge Kevin Litty, states an emergency exists and prohibits all outdoor burning until conditions improve. Violations could result in fines up to $500 for a first offense and up to $1,000 for repeat offenses.

Baxter County joins several others in the region under burn bans, including Marion, Boone, Newton, Searcy, Fulton, Izard and Sharp counties.
