A weekend heat wave shattered temperature records in Mountain Home, with highs soaring well above previous marks at KTLO Studios, the official reporting station for the National Weather Service.

On March 22, the temperature reached 91 degrees, breaking the previous record of 88 degrees set in 1997.

The heat intensified the following day, with a high of 96 degrees recorded on March 23. That surpassed the previous record of 89 degrees set in 1929 by seven degrees.

The March 23 reading also marked the earliest in the year Mountain Home has reached temperatures above 96 degrees by more than two months. The previous earliest occurrence was May 28, 1926, when the temperature hit 97 degrees.

The unseasonably hot and dry conditions have led to burn bans being issued in multiple counties across the region.
