
Missouri picked up a win in the annual Braggin’ Rights game Tuesday night, defeating Illinois 5-1 at CarShield Field.
The Tigers (17-8) used five pitchers to limit Illinois to just one run, stranding 15 Illini runners on base.
Missouri jumped out early, scoring four runs in the first inning. Cameron Benson reached on an error that brought in two runs before freshman Blaize Ward added a two-run double to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead.
PJ Green made his first start of the season and worked three scoreless innings, while Keyler Gonzalez earned the win with 2.1 innings of relief. The bullpen combined to hold Illinois in check the rest of the way.
The Tigers added an insurance run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Jamal George.
Missouri will remain in the St. Louis area to face Lindenwood on Wednesday.
