Opening Day has arrived in St. Louis as the Cardinals begin the 2026 season Thursday at Busch Stadium against the Tampa Bay Rays.First pitch is set for 3:15, with a full slate of pregame festivities expected as part of one of baseball’s most celebrated traditions.

The Cardinals enter the season with a new-look roster built around youth and energy. Young standouts like Masyn Winn, Alec Burleson and JJ Wetherholt are expected to play key roles as the organization transitions away from several veteran leaders.

Wetherholt, one of the club’s top prospects, is expected to make his debut as part of the starting lineup, adding excitement to an already energized fan base.

On the mound, left-hander Matthew Liberatore is scheduled to get the Opening Day start. The Cardinals are hopeful the rotation, bolstered by a mix of young arms and returning contributors, can take a step forward this season.

Offensively, St. Louis showed promise during spring training, finishing with a 17-9 record in Grapefruit League play. The team emphasized improved plate discipline and run production heading into the regular season.

Manager Oliver Marmol said the focus for this group is growth and consistency.

“This group is hungry,” Marmol said. “They’re learning, but they’re competing every day.”

The Rays come into the matchup with a reputation for strong pitching and disciplined play, presenting an early test for the Cardinals’ young lineup.

With a fresh roster and renewed energy, the Cardinals will look to set the tone for the 2026 season in front of a packed home crowd on Opening Day.
