Multiple law enforcement agencies are involved in trying to capture the suspects involved in trying to steal an entire ATM at Stockmen’s Bank in Gainesville early Thursday morning.
According to Ozark County Sheriff Cass Martin, deputies responded to the bank on Elm Street at 4:11 after the ATM was tampered with which activated the business’s security alarm.
When law enforcement arrived, they determined the bank itself had not been breached. However, the suspects had forcibly detached the exterior ATM from its concrete mount in the bank’s driveway.
The suspects attempted to access the ATM but were unsuccessful. They then attempted to remove the entire machine from the property. After failing to do so, the suspects abandoned the attempt and fled the scene. The incident resulted in significant damage to the ATM.
The Ozark County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating this case with assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and has also requested assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Sheriff Martin says any information from the public would be greatly appreciated and could be crucial in identifying those responsible. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Ozark County Sheriff’s Office at 417-679-4633. He says all tips will be handled discreetly, and efforts will be made to protect the identity of those who come forward.
