KTLO News spoke with Board President, Danny Woods, who says the effort has been years in the making.

Woods says the biggest benefit of becoming a Public Water Authority is access to funding and resources that were previously unavailable.

Under the new structure, the system would have access to low-interest loans, state resources and purchasing programs, along with reduced costs in areas like vehicle licensing. Woods said it also allows the association to offer additional benefits to employees.

“It allows us to offer some state benefits to our employees, which we’ve never had before,” he said. “That’s a big deal.”

The conversion is now pending approval from the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission.
