
Arkansas State University-Mountain Home picked up a pair of wins over National Park College on Thursday, earning a doubleheader sweep to improve to 8-24 on the season.
In the opener, the Trailblazers pulled away for a 12-2 victory. ASUMH jumped out early in the first inning on an RBI double by Rylan Jones and a run-scoring fielder’s choice from Chase Plowman. After National Park College tied the game in the second, ASUMH regained the lead in the third and never looked back.
Jones led the offense with three hits and four RBIs, while JD Hertzog and Broc Mattox each added multiple hits. Keaton Matlick earned the win on the mound, allowing two unearned runs over six and two-thirds innings.
In game two, ASUMH outlasted National Park College in a high-scoring 15-8 contest. The Trailblazers answered an early deficit with a four-run second inning and continued to add on throughout the game.
Jones again led the way, finishing with three hits, including a three-run home run in the eighth inning. Gavin Stanger also collected three hits, while JD Hertzog drove in two runs and reached base multiple times.
Blayne Cribb earned the win, pitching six innings while allowing four runs. ASUMH finished with 14 hits in the game and drew 12 walks.
The Trailblazers will face National Park College again Saturday.
