Herbert Rudell Jones, was born in Bexar, Arkansas, on May 29, 1925, the son of John Franklin Jones, DVM and Mittie Rose Watson Jones. He died on March 28, 2026, in Tallahassee, Florida, in the care of Big Bend Hospice.Herbert attended Pine Grove Elementary School in Dolph, Arkansas, Calico Rock High School in Calico Rock, Arkansas, Antelope Valley College in Lancaster, California, and Central Technical Institute in Kansas City, Missouri.

His position for ten years with General Dynamics, San Diego, California, was Missile Field Test Inspector, Senior, during the installation of the ICBM Atlas Missiles.

He was also in the workforce at the Kennedy Space Center for twenty-five years for the following contractors: Boeing Company, IT&T/Federal Electric, Planning Research Corporation, and EG & G as a Senior Operations Inspector of electrical, mechanical, and general construction reliability work efforts primarily for the Apollo/Saturn V Program.

He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord at the age of seventeen and was baptized at Jordan Landing in Lake Norfork, Jordan, Arkansas. He served as the Church Secretary and Treasurer at the Halls Chapel Church at Jordan when the late Carl Davis was pastor there.

He served as Deacon and Chairman of Deacons at Park Avenue Baptist Church in Titusville, Florida, and served as Church Deacon at Thomasville Road Baptist Church in Tallahassee, Florida, for many years.

He is survived by his daughter, Robbie Jones in Tallahassee, Florida; brothers and sisters-in-law, Orville and Gerry Moody, in Olathe, Kansas, Rick and Reda O’Dell of Caufield, Missouri; sister-in-law, Jan Moody in Olathe, Kansas; as well as many loved nieces and nephews and many loving friends.

He loved to play his fiddle, travel, and sing a lot. He had a great baritone voice, and others enjoyed his singing very much. He also loved Moochie, his cat, and Scratch, his dog, immensely.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Hand Cemetery in Jordan, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to your charity of choice.
