
Arkansas State University Mountain Home split its doubleheader with Mission University JV on Monday, winning the opener 9-4 before falling 10-8 in the nightcap.In the first game, Rylan Jones led the way with four RBIs, hitting a two-run home run in the first inning, adding an RBI walk in the second and an RBI single in the fifth. The Trailblazers built an early lead and held on behind solid pitching.
David Mercer started and allowed three runs over three and one-third innings, while Carson Tosh was strong in relief, giving up just one unearned run over three and two-thirds innings. ASUMH totaled nine hits, with Jones and Jett Hannaford collecting two each.
In the second game, ASUMH out-hit Mission University JV 14-9 but came up short after a big sixth inning by the visitors.
Broc Mattox and Weston Pschier each had three hits, while Mattox drove in three runs. The Trailblazers jumped out early, scoring in the first inning on a Mattox RBI single and adding to the lead in the second behind hits from Jones and Mattox.
ASUMH extended the lead to 5-1 in the third on a Gavin Stanger RBI single, but Mission University JV responded with six runs in the sixth inning to take control of the game.
Gabe Flores helped keep ASUMH in it with a two-run home run in the seventh, but the comeback fell short.
Nick Fincher started on the mound for ASUMH, allowing one run over five innings while striking out five.
ASUMH finished with 14 hits in the loss, with Flores adding two hits. The Trailblazers also stole three bases and turned a double play.
ASUMH will return to action Thursday at home against ASU Mid-South.
