Voters across Missouri head to the polls Tuesday for the 2026 General Municipal Elections. The elections are held each year on the first Tuesday in April and cover city government positions, school boards and local tax questions. Polls are open around the state starting Tuesday morning at 6 until 7 in the evening.

Ozark County
A key ballot item is Proposition L.D.S. in the Dora R-III School District, which would raise the district’s operating tax levy to $3.3944 per $100 of assessed valuation in 2026 and $3.5838 in 2027 to support facilities, staffing and expenses. Bakersfield voters will choose three trustees from Diana C. Hamby, Kevin Sewell, Tina M. Miller and Tony C. Johnson, while county voters will also decide whether to approve a use tax for the Ozark County Ambulance District to match its existing sales tax. Several school board races are also on the ballot, including in the Gainesville R-V School District, Dora R-III, and the Lutie R-VI School District.

Douglas County
In the City of Ava, voters will consider a proposed 1% sales tax to help offset police and fire department expenses. Several school districts will also hold board elections, including arace in the Gainesville R-V School District, a race in the Willow Springs R-IV School District, and a seven-candidate field in the Mountain Grove R-III School District.

Howell County
In Mountain View, voters will elect a mayor from Todd Mitchell, Karen Gaddy and John Krasuski and fill alderman seats in both wards, while Willow Springs voters will decide whether to shift from an elected city marshal to an appointed police chief. Two school districts are asking voters to approve bond issues, including a $5 million proposal in Fairview R-XI for a new gym and improvements and a $650,000 proposal in Oregon-Howell R-III for facility upgrades with no tax increase. Multiple school board races are also on the ballot, including contests in Bakersfield R-IV, West Plains R-VII and Willow Springs R-IV.

Taney County
In Merriam Woods, voters will choose a mayor to fill an unexpired term and elect aldermen in all three wards, while Branson voters will select a Ward III alderman and Rockaway Beach voters will decide a Ward 2 alderman race. Voters will also choose board members in districts including the Western Taney County Fire Protection District and Taney County Ambulance District Sub-District No. 1. School board elections are scheduled across the county, including races in the Forsyth R-III School District and the Branson Reorganized School District No. 4.

Voters across Missouri will also decide Proposition No. 1, a measure that would establish a property tax credit program for eligible homeowners on their primary residences. The proposal is tied to provisions outlined in Missouri Senate Bill 3 and is designed to help limit increases in property tax bills as assessed values rise, while not applying to secondary properties or commercial real estate.
