An Izard County woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly striking a vehicle with a splitting maul during a dispute with a neighbor.

34-year-old Sarah Nicole Oestreich faces charges of aggravated assault, first-degree criminal mischief and harassment.

According to an affidavit, deputies responded Feb. 19 to Ferro Road after receiving reports of a disturbance involving a woman hitting a vehicle with an axe. The victim told authorities Oestreich became upset during an argument over missing dogs and began acting aggressively.

The victim told investigators Oestreich grabbed a splitting maul and swung it at her vehicle as she was leaving, striking the rear passenger side. Video reviewed by law enforcement reportedly shows Oestreich raising the maul before a loud impact is heard.

Authorities observed damage to the vehicle consistent with being struck, along with marks on the passenger door. An estimate to repair the damage totaled $1,645.

Oestreich initially denied using the maul but later admitted possessing it during the confrontation, while denying striking the vehicle.

She is being held in the Izard County Detention Center with bond set at $10,000.
