A Newport couple is facing felony charges following an investigation into a recorded video chat involving a child.
According to an affidavit from the Batesville Police Department, 37-year-old Daniel Loyd Renfrow and 45-year-old Melissa Anna Renfrow have each been charged with engaging children in sexually explicit conduct for use in a visual or print medium, a Class Y felony.
Authorities say the investigation began Feb. 3 after an Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division investigator contacted local officials regarding a video recording involving two adults and a child.
The video was reported by a White River Regional Detention Center employee through the child abuse hotline. After receiving approval, investigators obtained the recording for review.
Officials say the video chat lasted approximately 28 minutes and occurred while Daniel Renfrow was incarcerated.
During the investigation, Melissa Renfrow reportedly told authorities she did not realize the video chat was being recorded.
Following the investigation, a judge issued warrants for the couple’s arrest.
According to jail records, Melissa Renfrow was arrested Feb. 6, and Daniel Renfrow was booked into the Independence County Detention Center Tuesday morning.
Both are being held on $250,000 bond.
The case remains under investigation.
