Willard Police Chief Tom McClain is recovering in the ICU after receiving a double lung transplant Tuesday.
McClain was placed on the organ transplant list March 5 and was later featured in a special report on organ transplants.
According to his daughter, Ashley McClain, the family received word a set of lungs was available around 11:30 Monday night. McClain went into surgery around 2 p.m. Tuesday and the procedure was completed around 7 p.m.
Doctors told the family the surgery went perfectly.
The transplant was performed at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
McClain has served as Willards police chief since 1993. He is expected to remain in St. Louis for at least three months during his recovery.
