A Garland County attorney has been arrested following an investigation involving alleged illegal activity.

The 18th Judicial District East Drug Task Force, in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security’s Special Response Team, arrested 51-year-old Tim Beckham Wednesday evening. Beckham previously served as the county’s chief public defender and was terminated from that position approximately one year ago.

According to an arrest affidavit, authorities executed a search warrant shortly after 6:00 p.m. at a residence on Bowlsby Court in Garland County. During the search, investigators reportedly discovered drugs, firearms and other illegal substances.

Beckham and 37-year-old Christy Utton were detained at the scene and later formally charged.

Court records indicate Utton has had prior encounters with law enforcement in recent years. Records also show Beckham had previously represented Utton in multiple cases, including charges related to forgery and possession of drug paraphernalia.
