Missouri deputies investigate shooting, find drugs and weapons

Authorities in southeast Missouri are investigating a reported shooting incident that led to the discovery of drugs and illegal weapons.

According to the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 5:16 Sunday evening to a report of shots fired on County Road 532 outside Kennett.

Sheriff Nick Darter reported the suspect allegedly confronted the victim while armed with a rifle. After leaving the scene, authorities say the suspect followed the victim to a nearby residence, where multiple rounds were fired into the victim’s unoccupied vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Deputies later obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s residence. During the search, authorities reported finding two illegally possessed firearms with ammunition, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, along with a quantity of suspected marijuana.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Dunklin County Jail. Formal charges are pending review by the prosecuting attorney’s office.

The suspect’s name has not been released.
