High School students around the state competed in Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Archery 3D State Championship on Saturday at Pangburn High School.

Lead Hill High School earned a total score of 1,675, following first place by only 35 points. Additionally, Lead Hill student Travis Cook earned a spot in the top boys’ results, scoring a 294 out of a possible 300, tying Magnet Cove’s Cash Hignight. Cook ended up narrowly taking second. Behind Cook was fellow Lead Hill student Dallon Hanna, who took fourth place.

Furthermore, Lead Hill Middle School student Alex Householder had the top score for the boys middle school archers, with Norfork Elementary’s Triston Hughes following in fourth. Lead Hill Elementary School took fifth place in the elementary team awards.

The tournament consists of students rotating through a course of six 3D targets in the shape of different North American game animals: a turkey, coyote, bear, pronghorn, white-tailed deer and stone sheep. The first target is placed 10 meters away, and the distance increases to reach the last target 15 meters away. Archers have 5 arrows per each target.
