A 23-year-old woman was arrested Friday evening after authorities said she grabbed the steering wheel of a vehicle and caused it to crash along Highway 178 West.

According to the probable cause affidavit from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy responded to the area of 1760 Highway 178 West after observing a large cloud of dust near the roadway.

An off-duty Arkansas State Parks officer alerted the deputy that a vehicle traveling eastbound had abruptly turned into a ditch.

Authorities said the vehicle was occupied by a woman and her daughter, Kylie Mulholland.

According to the report, the driver told deputies she was taking Mulholland to the hospital for a mental evaluation when Mulholland allegedly grabbed the steering wheel and jerked it toward the ditch line, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway.

Investigators said the vehicle traveled approximately 100 feet along a tree line, narrowly missing several trees and damaging a fence before coming to rest in a driveway.

Deputies said Mulholland refused to cooperate during the investigation and resisted efforts to place her in handcuffs before being taken into custody and transported to the Baxter County Detention Center.

Mulholland is being held on a $4,180 bond and faces charges of resisting arrest, probation violation, second-degree criminal mischief, obstructing governmental operations and third-degree assault on a family or household member.

No serious injuries were reported.
