A Boone County man has been arrested for the rape of a minor female in Newton County. Twenty-five-year-old Cordell Michael Martin of Everton is facing two counts of rape, a class Y felony, the most serious crime in Arkansas not punishable by the death penalty.

According to the probable cause affidavit from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was interviewed at Grandma’s House Child Advocacy Center in Mountain Home. She says she and Martin had intercourse twice four years ago when she was 12-years-old. She says Martin knew her age at the time.

Martin confirmed the victim’s statements to investigators. He said he cut off communications with the victim a few weeks after the last encounter because he felt bad about the relationship knowing she was a minor.

Martin is being held in the Newton County Jail on $100,000 bail.
