A Marion County man is facing nine charges following a pursuit in Boone County where the speed reached 112 miles-per-hour. Being held in the Boone County Detention Center is 43-year-old Cameron Wayne Ply of Pyatt.According to the probable cause affidavit from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office which was released Tuesday, the incident happened Aug. 7. The deputy was patrolling in the Zinc area when he saw a driver not wearing his seat belt and recognized the person as Ply who is a suspect in a recent breaking and entering case in the Harmon area.

The deputy lost sight of Ply’s vehicle for a few moments after turning around, but caught up to him on Zinc Road. He observed Ply pass another vehicle on a double yellow line, forcing that vehicle into the ditch. At that point, Ply was travelling at 75-80 miles-per-hour in a 45 miles-per-hour zone.

Ply then began driving in the wrong lane of traffic and his speed reached 112 miles-per-hour. He then took a blind curve in the wrong lane at 85-miles-per hour. Coming out of the curve, Ply’s vehicle was straddling the center line of the road while he was driving at 105 miles-per-hour. The deputy noted Ply was having problems controlling the car. They met a vehicle at one point that had to pull into the ditch.

Ply eventually slowed down to 50-60 miles-per-hour as the pursuit neared the intersection of Zinc Road and Daniels Road. The deputy performed a tactical vehicle intervention (TVI) which was successful. It spun Ply’s vehicle around 180 degrees in the roadway. Ply gave up at that point, put his vehicle in park and put his hands out of the window and was taken into custody.

During a search of Ply’s car, deputies found a glass pipe with suspected burnt marijuana residue. Also found were a total of 51 pills, all of which were controlled substances.

Ply is facing felony charges of fleeing in a vehicle and aggravated assault along with misdemeanor charges of possession of schedule IV controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, speeding, restrictions on overtaking a vehicle on the left, vehicle to be driven on the right side of the road and not wearing a seat belt. He also faces a sentencing enhancement for being a habitual offender meaning Ply has four or more felony convictions. His bond is set at $20,000.

The affidavit notes Ply also has eight misdemeanor convictions.

PREVIOUS ARRESTS

Ply has six previous felony arrests and convictions in Marion and Boone counties dating back to 2002.

His charges include residential burglary, theft of property, theft by receiving, first degree criminal mischief, criminal trespass, unauthorized use of a vehicle and careless or prohibited driving.
