The Arkansas Department of Education on Friday released school letter grades for the 2024-2025 academic year, the first issued under the state’s updated accountability formula.

Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders tied the change to her LEARNS Act, describing the new formula and accompanying ATLAS exam as a way to provide a clearer picture of student and school performance.

“LEARNS is all about improving the way we educate kids in Arkansas, and our new letter grade formula, alongside the new ATLAS exam, allows us to do that with a better, more full picture of where each of our students and schools stand,” Sanders said. “We never want to settle until every child in Arkansas has a pathway to success and with this additional information and the new resources now available through the LEARNS Act, we are creating opportunities to help every student across the state.”

ADE Secretary Jacob Oliva said the results provide consistent and comparable measures that can guide progress and targeted improvements.

“These results offer consistent, comparable measures that schools can use to celebrate progress and plan targeted improvements. Our focus remains on ensuring every Arkansas student learns and grows each year,” Oliva said.

According to the department, 122 schools earned an A, 291 received a B, 352 earned a C, 137 received a D and 130 were graded F. Schools were also given a simulated grade last year to prepare for the new system.
