The Baxter County Health Unit of the Arkansas Department of Health will offer free flu vaccinations Friday, at its new location, 850 Buttercup Drive, in Mountain Home. The drive-thru clinic will run from 9 to 4. Residents should enter from the south entrance on Buttercup Drive, pull under the front canopy, and exit behind the building.

Flu shots are available at no cost regardless of insurance. Residents are encouraged to bring insurance cards, but the vaccine will be provided free for those without coverage. Vaccinations are also available at the local health unit before and after the event.

“Getting a yearly flu vaccination is the best line of defense,” said Stacey Ferretti, BSN, RN, Baxter County Health Unit Administrator. Dr. Jennifer Dillaha, ADH Chief Medical Officer, added that the flu can affect people of all ages and urged residents to protect themselves and their families.

The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone six months and older, particularly older adults, young children, pregnant women, and people with chronic health conditions. The vaccine is safe and cannot cause the flu, though mild soreness or low-grade fever may occur.
