Rain from a passing cool front didn’t slow Arkansas alligator hunters, who harvested 162 alligators during the opening weekend of the 2025 season, according to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
The second and final weekend of the season runs from 30 minutes after sunset Sept. 26 through 30 minutes before sunrise Sept. 29 across all public and private hunting zones.
Hunters on private land and those with Millwood Lake permits are urged to check the hotline at 833-345-0398 or visit agfc.com/alligator nightly before heading out to ensure quotas remain open, AGFC herpetologist Amanda Bryant said.
The largest gators reported so far measured 13 feet, 1 inch on private land and 13 feet on public land in Zone 3. The state record stands at 13 feet, 11½ inches, set in 2020.
Bryant also thanked hunters who submitted tissue samples for an ongoing diet study. Enough samples were collected during the first weekend, so no further submissions are needed.
