High School football roundup: Salem, Quitman stay unbeaten; Marshall wins shootout

Friday night featured plenty of action across North Central Arkansas and southern Missouri as several area football teams hit the field.

Yellville-Summit is still looking for its first win of the season after falling on the road to Quitman. The Panthers dropped to 0-4 with a 27-6 setback, while Quitman improved to 4-0.

Marshall picked up a big win in a shootout. The Bobcats are now 3-2 after outlasting South Side 60-56.

Salem stayed unbeaten thanks to another strong defensive effort. The Greyhounds moved to 4-0 after limiting Melbourne to just seven points in a 34-7 victory. The Bearkatz drop to 3-1.

Mountain View had a tough night against Mayflower. The Yellowjackets fell to 1-3 after a 49-7 loss, while Mayflower remained perfect at 4-0.

In Class 5A, Harrison got back to .500. The Goblins are 2-2 following a 41-13 win over Alma.

Izard County faced a tough test on the road. The Cougars are now 1-3 after falling to East Poinsett County 58-20.

Turning to southern Missouri, Salem dropped its fourth game of the year. The Tigers fell to Ava 42-14 and are 1-4 on the season.

Hollister notched its third win of the year, topping Buffalo 30-16. West Plains picked up a decisive 55-14 victory over Logan-Rogersville.

Branson came up short against Parkview, falling 18-13 in a defensive battle. Springfield Catholic stayed perfect at 5-0 with a 50-34 win over Forsyth.

And looking at the Arkansas Sports Media Top Ten, top-ranked Bryant had no trouble with Central in a 64-0 blowout. Second-ranked Bentonville defeated Har-Ber 38-7.

No. 3 Greenwood got past No. 9 Shiloh Christian 35-24, but the other No. 3 team wasn’t as fortunate. Fayetteville was upset by No. 10 Bentonville West 48-14.

No. 7 Joe T. Robinson blanked Watson Chapel 58-0. Sixth-ranked Conway cruised past Little Rock Southwest 57-21.

No. 5 Rogers rolled over Northside 52-12, and No. 8 Benton defeated Jonesboro 55-24.
