It was a nail-biter Sunday as the Dallas Cowboys came up just short against the Carolina Panthers, dropping a 30-27 decision at Bank of America Stadium.

The story of the game was former Cowboy Rico Dowdle, who tore through his old team for 183 rushing yards and a touchdown, then added a 33-yard field goal, setting score at the buzzer. Dowdle finished with a whopping 239 yards from scrimmage, making it two straight games over 200 for the talented back.

Quarterback Bryce Young connected on 17 of 25 passes for 199 yards and three touchdowns, two to rookie Tetairoa McMillan and one to Dowdle. Dallas’ Dak Prescott put up solid numbers himself — 25 of 34 for 261 yards and three scores — but the Cowboys couldn’t get much going on the ground, totaling just 31 rushing yards.

Wide receiver George Pickens led the receiving corps with nine catches for 168 yards and a touchdown, but it wasn’t enough as the Cowboys fell behind in the turnover and yardage battle, ultimately letting the Panthers control the clock in the final minutes.

After a late Dallas field goal tied the game at 27, Carolina drove 71 yards in 15 plays, chewing up more than six minutes, before rookie kicker Ryan Fitzgerald sealed the win with a 33-yard field goal as time expired.

The Cowboys now sit at 2-3-1, hoping to regroup and find answers on both sides of the ball before returning home next week.
