A man wanted in New York for murder has been arrested in Fayetteville.
According to the U.S. Marshals Service, Rephayah Oselmo was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon around 4 p.m. by deputy marshals. Oselmo was wanted by the State of New York on charges of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon, stemming from a warrant issued Oct. 8 in Onondaga County, in the city of Syracuse.
Investigators with the U.S. Marshals Service were called in shortly after the warrant was issued, as Oselmo was believed to have fled New York. Their investigation led them to an apartment complex off South Lewis Avenue in Fayetteville, where Oselmo attempted to escape by jumping from a second-story window. He was quickly apprehended by deputy marshals.
The U.S. Marshals Service says its fugitive task forces bring together federal, state, and local law enforcement to locate and arrest some of the nations most dangerous fugitives. In 2024 alone, the agency reports arresting 74,222 fugitives and clearing 88,765 warrants, averaging nearly 300 arrests per day.
