Arkansans turned in 26,500 pounds of unwanted and expired prescription medication during Arkansas Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025.
The statewide effort brought together 140 law enforcement agencies and community partners across 375 collection sites in all 75 counties. Officials say the event continues to play a vital role in preventing prescription drug misuse and protecting public safety.
“Each year, Arkansas Drug Take Back Day reminds us that prevention begins with awareness and action,” said Kirk Lane, director of the Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership. “The safe disposal of unused prescriptions helps stop addiction before it starts.”
Tom Fisher, Arkansas State Drug Director, said strong community participation shows the program’s impact. “Every bottle turned in to law enforcement is a reminder that when we work together, we can make real progress in preventing misuse and building a safer, healthier state,” he said.
Since its launch in 2010, the Arkansas Drug Take Back program has collected and safely destroyed more than 342 tons of unused or expired medications.
Lane and Fisher joined Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr. and his team during the event.
Arkansans who missed the fall event can still safely dispose of medications year-round. More than 300 permanent drop-off boxes are available statewide and can be located at ARDrugTakeBack.org.
