A Marion County woman has been arrested on a charge of permitting child abuse. Forty-four-year-old Elizabeth Ann Hughes of rural Yellville was arrested last Wednesday on the felony charge along with failure to comply with terms and conditions.

The files in the case have been ordered sealed by Circuit Judge John Putnam.

Hughes was arrested in 2023 for possession of methamphetamine with purpose to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of an instrument of crime. In a plea agreement, she was given 36 months of supervised probation.

Court documents in that case to revoke her suspended sentence indicate in June, Hughes committed the offense of allowing abuse of a minor.

In October, she tested positive for amphetamines and methamphetamine, violating her probation.

The charge of permitting child abuse can be sexual or physical in nature and is allowed by a parent, guardian or someone legally responsible for a child’s care.

Hughes is being held in the Marion County Jail. Bond is set at $25,000 on the permitting child abuse charge but she is being held without bond on the failure to comply with terms and conditions charge.
