Bombers Lose Heartbreaker, Lady Bombers Advance to Atlas Asphalt Title Game

Day two of the Atlas Asphalt Holiday Tournament took place on Tuesday in The Hangar. The longest day, of the three day tournament, saw Mountain Home’s boys take on Paragould and the Lady Bombers take on Cabot.

The Bombers started off the night for the hosts against Paragould. Mountain Home got off to a slow start in the first quarter as they found themselves trailing 17-10. The second quarter would see Landon Newton, off the bench, score 5 of his 6 points on the day for the Bombers. Mountain Home would enter the halftime break down 36-22. Mountain Home’s Jackson Corp caught fire in the 3rd quarter scoring 8 of his 13 points on the night, including two threes, to close the gap to 46-40 heading into the final stanza. Mountain Home would rally cut the lead to 57-54 in the final minute after Paragould went 1 of 2 at the free throw line. After a stolen inbounds pass from Jackson Corp, Mountain Home’s Bailor Tate would launch a three, that appeared to be tipped, but would inevitably miss that would have tied the game at 57 apiece. After the miss Paragould was given the ball and the Rams would hit 2 free throws to cap off the 59-54 victory in The Hangar Tuesday night.

Mountain Home’s Rhett Gilbert led Mountain Home with 15 points, Jackson Corp added 13, and Drew Haney added 10.

Mountain Home falls to 8-7 and will take on Greene County Tech, for a third time in three weeks, in the third place game.

In other boys action Farmington defeated Greene County Tech 66-43, Lewisburg came up victorious against Dumas 44-37, and Fort Smith Northside ran away from Rector 81-32.

The Lady Bombers would take stage for the night cap taking on Cabot. Mountain Home would sprint out of the gates to take a 10-5 lead after quarter number one. The second quarter the Lady Bombers would get out to a 28-8 lead into the halftime break on the heels of a pair of threes to close out the quarter by Taye Chairs. The third quarter would see Mountain Home stretch the lead to 47-17 and invoke the Arkansas Activities Association Sportsmanship Rule. The final quarter was played with a running clock as all Lady Bombers on the roster would see time on the floor to cap off the 50-27 victory for the Lady Bombers.

Mountain Home was led in scoring by Jayla Yonkers with 17 points. Both Taye Chairs and Livi Fosness added 11 points apiece.

Mountain Home improves to 9-4 and will face Greers Ferry West Side in the Atlas Asphalt Championship game.

In other girls action Greers Ferry West Side defeated Paragould 70-42, Dumas mercy ruled Cave CIty 63-34, and Georgetown, Texas ran past Lewisburg, Mississippi 67-7.
