
The City of Bakersfield has received a grant worth $599,178 for drainage and street resurfacing after flooding in recent years. The Missouri Department of Development grant was announced Monday and will help the city with some critical needs.Mayor Tony Johnson, who is entering his 36th year as the mayor, says the town has seen a lot flooding damage in recent years and the grant will help with much needed repair work.

The street the mayor referred to is Johnson Street by the school. He says they are hoping to get some funding from FEMA in the future so they can pave that street.
The Bakersfield mayor says they applied for the grant in 2024, but were unsuccessful. But, they had more documentation when they applied in 2025.
