Red Wolves fall at Troy as early hole proves too much to overcome

Arkansas State fell behind early and could not recover in a 99-74 loss at Troy on Saturday afternoon at Trojan Arena.

The Red Wolves (12-7, 4-3 Sun Belt) were led by TJ Caldwell with 17 points. Jalen Hampton added 15 points, Christian Harmon scored 14 and Matt Hayman chipped in 10. Hampton narrowly missed a double-double, while Hayman paced the team with five assists.

Arkansas State shot 42.6 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from three-point range, but struggled at the free-throw line, converting just 12-of-22. Troy took control with a strong run late in the first half and pulled away after halftime, stretching the margin to as many as 27 points.

The Red Wolves will continue their four-game road trip Thursday at Georgia Southern. Tipoff is set for 6.
