Suspect in custody after assault, ambulance theft on I-530 near Little Rock

An emergency responder is recovering from minor injuries, and a suspect is in custody after a fight broke out inside an ambulance Sunday afternoon on Interstate 530 near Little Rock.

According to Arkansas State Police, the incident happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes near the Pratt Road exit, about seven miles south of downtown Little Rock. An EASI ambulance crew requested assistance after a person they were transporting became combative, assaulted crew members, stole the ambulance and left the responders on the highway.

Troop E assisted the ambulance crew, and Troop A later located the stolen ambulance. State police conducted a tactical vehicle intervention to stop the suspect and end the pursuit.

One crew member was punched multiple times and suffered minor injuries. The crew also reported being threatened with trauma shears. The suspect was taken into custody, and the incident remains under investigation.
