Newton County has been added to the list of burn bans in north central Arkansas due to dry conditions.Newton County now joins Boone, Stone, Fulton, Izard, Searcy and Mountain Home with burn bans in place. Violating a burn ban is a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $2,500 and up to one year in jail.

Officials say the burn bans will remain in effect until sufficient rainfall is received. The Arkansas Forestry Division lists the entire state in the moderate wildfire danger category, with 32 of Arkansas’ 75 counties currently under burn bans.
