It was basketball time in The Hangar once again as Mountain Home welcomed Alma to town a day earlier than previously scheduled due to the threat of inclement weather.
The night began with the Lady Bombers looking to bounce back from their loss on Tuesday night against Farmington. Alma would actually get off to a quick start and enter the 2nd quarter with a 18-16 lead of the hosts. Mountain Home would take off as Brooklynn Mitchell would score 15 points in the quarter to help outscore Alma 23-7 to retake the lead and take a 39-25 lead into the halftime break. Mountain Home would carry the momentum into the 3rd quarter and outscore Alma by 5 to take a 61-43 lead into the final stanza. The fourth quarter Mountain Home would pull away and extend the lead to 30 to invoke the Arkansas Activities Association sportsmanship rule and win the game 78-50.
Mountain Home was led in scoring by Brooklynn Mitchell with a staggering 41 points, the most points scored by a Dell Leonard coached player, dating back to 1999 when Leonard took over the girls program. Jayla Yonkers added 16 and Livi Fosness chipped in 14.
Mountain Home improves to 14-6 and 5-1 in the 5A-west and will be back in action next Friday, weather permitting, at Greenwood.
On the boys side Mountain Home was looking to stop a 2 game skid heading into their matchup with Alma. In the first quarter both the Airedales and Bombers came out blazing as 4 of Mountain Homes 5 starters knocked down a three to begin the contest in the opening stanza. However, Mountain Home would see themselves down 22-19 after quarter number one. The second quarter Mountain Homes Bailor Tate would score 5 of his 11 points, but the Bombers would see themselves down 42-36 heading into the halftime break. The third quarter Almas Shep Newcomb would take over, scoring 11 of his game high 31 points in the 3rd to help propel the Airedales to a 64-49 lead into the final stanza. Mountain Home would launch one last charge to cut it to 12 but would get no closer as the Airedales would polish off the 83-70 victory.
The Bombers were led in scoring by Rhett Gilbert with 25 points. Drew Haney added 13 and Bailor Tate added 11.
Mountain Home falls to 11-11 on the season and 3-3 in the 5A-west.
