Boone County man facing charges for assaulting elderly grandfather, has history of violence towards him

A 32-year-old Boone County man has been arrested for assaulting his 79-year-old grandfather last month. Brandon Ray Whittenburg of rural Harrison has a history of violence towards his grandfather as this marks his fifth arrest involving either violence or property damage since December of 2022.According to the probable cause affidavit from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Whittenburg had asked his grandfather to borrow some money. The victim said he didn’t have any. Whittenburg became upset and started damaging items in the house.

The victim and his daughter called Whittenburg’s mother to come over to calm him down. When she arrived, the situation escalated further and Whittenburg physically attacked his grandfather, causing injury.

He took his aunt’s phone and broke it. The aunt tried to get Whittenburg and his mom out of the house during which they both started damaging items near the door. Both Whittenburg and his mother made threats to the man and his daughter during the altercation.

The grandfather has obtained multiple orders of protection against his grandson, the latest being in December.

Whittenburg is facing a felony charge of second degree domestic battery and misdemeanor charges of third degree domestic battery, interference with emergency communications, second degree criminal mischief and violation of a protection order. He is being held in the Boone County Jail with bond set at $25,000.

PREVIOUS ARRESTS

The affidavit notes Whittenburg has an extensive history of violence and property damage involving his grandfather.

In December 2022, he was arrested for second degree assault on a family or household member and second degree criminal mischief.

In December 2023, Whittenburg was arrested for criminal mischief.

Whittenburg was arrested in April 2025 on charges of third degree assault of a family or household member and first degree criminal mischief.

He was arrested in August of last year on charges of third degree assault of a family or household member.
