The Cotter Planning and Zoning Board will hold a public hearing Monday evening to gather comments regarding the proposed closure of an alley connected to a planned downtown development.

The hearing is scheduled for Monday evening at 5 in the Cotter Council Chambers at 115 McLean Ave. The meeting will address the possible closing of an alley located behind property at 106 Combs Ave. including lots 802, 803 and 805 and 155 McLean Ave. lots 545, 546, 547 and 548.

The request is tied to a proposed development known as “Outside the Box,” an open-air boutique shopping plaza planned to be constructed from repurposed shipping containers. The project is being led by State Rep. Jason Nazarenko, a Cotter resident, and would be located along Second Street between McLean and Combs avenues, just down the block from Cotter City Hall.

At a previous planning and zoning meeting, officials noted that an existing alley runs through the proposed site and has not been formally surrendered for development. Monday’s hearing will allow board members to receive public input before taking further action on the matter.

Residents with questions or concerns about the proposed alley closure are encouraged to attend the public hearing.
