Missouri baseball fell in its first true road contest of the season Tuesday night, dropping a 4-2 decision to Florida Atlantic at FAU Baseball Stadium.
The game featured a pitchers’ duel early between Mizzou freshman JD Dohrmann, making his collegiate debut, and FAU starter Kide Adetuyi. Both hurlers kept the game scoreless into the fourth inning before the Owls broke through with a one-out RBI single from Xavier Moronta, followed by a sacrifice fly to take a 2-0 lead. One of the runs was unearned due to an outfield misplay.
Missouri (2-2) answered in the sixth inning when Tyler Macon reached on an infield single ahead of Jase Woita, who blasted a two-run home run over the right-field scoreboard to tie the game at 2-2. The homer was Woita’s second of the season and his second in as many games.
Relief pitcher Sam Rosand entered later in the inning and escaped a jam to keep the game tied, but FAU regained the lead in the seventh. A double by Brett Patten set the stage for Nick Romano’s two-run homer, giving the Owls a 4-2 advantage.
The Tigers were unable to mount another rally, managing just three hits over the final three innings.
Dohrmann impressed in his debut, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits over five innings while striking out five. Missouri’s starting pitchers have now combined for a 2.25 ERA over the first four games of the season.
Woita led the offense, finishing 1-for-4 with two RBI, while Macon, Pierre Seals and Cameron Benson each added a hit. Rosand was charged with the loss.
Missouri will remain in Florida for a weekend series against New Haven at Terry Park in Fort Myers.
