Colin Fisher turned in one of the finest pitching performances in Arkansas baseball history Sunday, throwing a complete-game one-hit shutout with a career-high 11 strikeouts to lead the eighth-ranked Razorbacks to an 11-0 run-rule win over Xavier at Baum-Walker Stadium.
Fisher’s outing is believed to be the first eight-inning complete-game shutout and the first eight-inning one-hitter in program history. The left-hander allowed just an infield single in the second inning before retiring the final 20 batters he faced.
Arkansas jumped on Xavier early, plating three runs in the first inning on Camden Kozeal’s RBI single and Reese Robinett’s two-RBI double. Zack Stewart blasted his first home run as a Razorback and the 45th of his collegiate career in the second inning, and Ryder Helfrick’s RBI double pushed the lead to 5-0. Helfrick added his fourth home run of the season in the fourth inning to extend the advantage to seven.
Kuhio Aloy capped the afternoon with a walk-off three-run homer in the eighth his second game-winning hit in as many days to invoke the run rule. The right fielder is slashing a team-leading .474 with three home runs and eight RBI through five games this season.
With the sweep, Arkansas has now won 33 consecutive non-conference weekend regular season home series, a streak dating back to 2014. The Razorbacks have won five straight games and improved to 6-1 on the season.
Up next, Arkansas hosts Arkansas State in a midweek doubleheader at Baum-Walker Stadium. First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 3 on SEC Network+.
