Arkansas freshman Darius Acuff Jr. has swept national player of the week honors, adding AP National Player of the Week, USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week, and CBS Sports National Freshman of the Week to his SEC Player of the Week award.
Acuff averaged 34.5 points, 5.0 assists, and 4.5 rebounds in games at No. 25 Alabama and versus Missouri, highlighted by a 49-point effort in a double-overtime loss to the Crimson Tide. He scored 20 points against Missouri.
In earning the AP honor, Acuff beat out BYU’s AJ Dybantsa, Duke’s Cameron Boozer, and UCLA’s Donovan Dent. He shared the USBWA honor alongside Dybantsa, Orlando Lovejoy of Detroit Mercy, Josiah Davis of Cal State Northridge, and Chance Westry of UAB.
It marked the second time Acuff has earned the CBS Sports freshman honor, having previously won it on January 6th. CBS Sports writer Cameron Salerno called Acuff’s performance at Alabama arguably the best individual performance of any player in college basketball this season, noting that Acuff played all 50 minutes and left it all on the floor.
The Razorbacks return to action Wednesday night at home against Texas A&M. Tipoff in Bud Walton Arena is set for 8 on ESPN2.
