Izard County advances to regional title game; area girls teams battle in Friday semifinals

Regional tournament play continued Friday night with several Twin Lakes Area teams competing for championship spots and state tournament positioning.

In the 2A-2 Boys Regional, Izard County advanced to the tournament finals with a 53-44 win over Tuckerman. The Cougars improved to 17-13 on the season behind a strong offensive performance from Benaiah Spray, who led all scorers with 22 points. Caden Wiseman added 15 points and Sebastion Spray finished with 12 as Izard County secured its second straight postseason victory and moved into the regional championship game.

In the 3A-2 Boys Regional, Bergman’s postseason run came to an end following a 53-46 loss to top-seed Osceola in semifinal action.

On the girls side, Mountain View advanced in the 3A-2 Regional with a narrow 46-44 semifinal victory over Manila, earning a spot in the championship round.

Bergman’s girls also moved on after defeating Melbourne 61-42 in regional semifinal play to continue their postseason run.

In the 1A-2 Girls Regional, Norfork’s season came to a close with a 67-38 loss to undefeated West Side Greers Ferry in semifinal action.
